Cyclone season in Guadeloupe: preparing for childcare
Know when cyclone season runs, check the prefecture’s guidance and prepare an emergency kit for a few days in Guadeloupe.

Always check with the authorities
This article is not a weather alert service. It does not replace either current alerts or guidance from the authorities. In a real situation, consult official information from the prefecture directly.
Know when cyclone season runs
The prefecture states that Guadeloupe is exposed each year to cyclone risk from June to November.
Find official guidance
The prefecture page brings together the colours and safety instructions, safe shelters, emergency numbers, home preparation, the emergency kit and weather alert bulletins.
Prepare an easily accessible kit
The prefecture recommends putting together the kit before a natural disaster and keeping it all in an easily accessible place. It specifies that water, electricity and telephone networks may be cut off and that you need to be able to live independently for a few days.
Gather the items indicated by the prefecture
- At least ten litres of water per person.
- Emergency food requiring little water, including baby food jars when a baby needs them.
- Basic tools and a can opener.
- A torch with spare batteries, or a hand-crank torch.
- A battery-powered, rechargeable or hand-crank radio.
- A first-aid kit and hygiene products.
- A spare set of keys, photocopies of administrative documents and payment methods.
- Clothing, a sleeping bag and an emergency blanket.

Build this guidance into your plans
The general guide brings together the three selected pieces of local information. The school calendar separately presents Guadeloupe’s 2026-2027 dates.
