Before childcare, prepare a brief sheet that the babysitter can find immediately. It complements, without replacing, the information recorded in the childcare arrangement and the instructions given at departure.

Personal contacts

  • the phone number of the parent or legal guardian;
  • a second authorised adult who can be reached;
  • the exact address of the childcare location and access directions;
  • the usual doctor or healthcare service when this information is useful.

Information concerning the child

State allergies, prescribed treatments, special needs and people authorised to pick up the child. Explain where to find the prescription or existing protocol, without asking the babysitter to improvise a medical procedure.

Emergency numbers in France

  • 15 : SAMU, for a medical emergency;
  • 17 : police or gendarmerie, for a security emergency;
  • 18 : fire and rescue service, particularly in the event of an accident, fire or person in danger;
  • 112 : European emergency number;
  • 114 : emergency service accessible in particular by SMS, chat and video calling for deaf, deafblind, hard-of-hearing or aphasic people;
  • 119 : children in danger or at risk of being so.

The 911 is not the emergency number to provide for childcare in France. Numbers and their uses are detailed on the official Ma Sécurité.

When calling the emergency services

The babysitter gives their phone number, the nature of the emergency, the exact location and the child’s condition, then follows the operator’s instructions. The parent is notified as soon as the situation allows.
